(I intend to share my thoughts, not to endorse.)

Being a novice writer can be both exciting and challenging. Six months ago, I joined Medium without knowing it would become my medium of expression.

Today, I want to share with you five invaluable benefits of using Medium as a platform to express yourself. My journey began with a physical setback, but it has evolved into a profound avenue for emotional healing, self-discovery, and embracing the world of writing.

1. Therapeutic Writing:

One of the first benefits of using Medium as a novice writer was the therapeutic aspect. At the time, I was recuperating from shoulder surgery, which left my left hand immobilized. During this period of physical constraint, I found solace in writing. It became a way to share my feelings, not only about my physical well-being but also my emotional health and the healing of inner grief. Writing, in essence, became a form of therapy.

2. Conversations with Oneself:

Writing is a unique way of having a conversation with yourself. As a novice writer, I realized that when you put your thoughts and emotions into words, it’s not just an act of creation, but it’s also akin to having a dialogue with your inner self. It’s a journey of self-discovery, and Medium is an ideal platform for this introspective communication.

3. Venting and Healing Traumas:

The next significant benefit of expressing yourself on Medium is the opportunity to vent your grief and traumas. As a novice writer, sharing hidden traumas with a broader audience can be incredibly therapeutic. It’s like releasing the weight you’ve carried within, and you might be surprised at how many others resonate with your experiences. This sense of connection and understanding can be incredibly healing.

4. Non-Judgmental Community:

One of the fears many novice writers have is the fear of judgment regarding their writing style. However, Medium is a welcoming and non-judgmental community. It’s a place where you can explore your unique style and voice without the fear of criticism. This community embraces diversity and encourages budding writers to find their hidden talents. It provides a sense of belonging and confidence that you can indeed write and share your feelings through the art of writing.

5. Building Confidence:

The final benefit I’d like to highlight is the confidence that Medium can instill in novice writers. Expressing yourself through writing can be intimidating, but as you continue to share your thoughts and experiences on this platform, you will discover your inner writer. The positive feedback and support from the Medium community can boost your self-assurance and push you to explore your creative potential.

Conclusion:

In my journey as a novice writer on Medium, I’ve found solace, self-discovery, and healing. The therapeutic nature of writing, the conversations with oneself, the opportunity to vent and heal from traumas, the non-judgmental community, and the confidence-building aspects have been invaluable. Medium is not just a platform; it’s a medium of expression and self-discovery for aspiring writers. So, if you’re a novice writer looking for a place to share your thoughts and emotions, give Medium a try – you may be surprised by the many benefits it offers on your writing journey.
