I always look forward to visiting my birthplace during summer to enjoy the mango season. Even though I have been away for almost two decades, the memories associated with mangoes are unforgettable. Living in northern India, I tried as many varieties, but not all of them.

After talking to my seven-year-old grandson, he shared his knowledge of the mangoes he had eaten. He almost counted ten varieties of mangos and their names. I asked him to create a little booklet to share his findings with others.

As we delved deeper into mangoes, we discovered more than 1500 varieties grown in the Indian region. Each state has its specific variety. Each variety has a unique taste and flavor. That is why It is called the king of fruits.

Typical Indian households are incomplete without mangoes during the season. Numerous recipes are made of ripe or green mangoes, such as deserts, ice creams, puddings, cakes, pickles, chutneys, and mango aam panna, which removes heat from the body.

I still remember how specific green raw mangoes were picked after the first rain to make pickles preserved year-round in big ceramic containers with added spices.
